Proposed LL.M. Degree

The proposed LL.M. Degree Programme shall be intended to prepare the students for academic and research careers.

Eligibility

A candidate for admission to LL.M. degree programme should have passed the LL.B. degree examination of a recognized University having secured not less than 50% of marks in the aggregate out of the maximum marks prescribed.

Admission Procedure

Eligible candidates desirous of getting admission to LL.M. Degree Course shall apply in the prescribed form within the last date stipulated. Prescribed application forms can be obtained from the office of SKAIL by sending a Demand Draft for Rs. 350/- drawn on any nationalised bank in favour of S. K. Acharya Institute of Law and payable at Kalyani. Candidates for LL.M. Course shall be selected on the basis of a combined assessment of :

  • Performance at the admission test conducted by the Institute; and
  • Past academic record at the LL.B. Degree Examination. On the basis of the above, applicants will be short listed for initial selection. Such candidates shall then be called for a group discussion on the basis of which the final selection shall be made.

However, the LL.M. Degree Programme is only at the stage of contemplation and subject to approval of the University Authority.

Duration

LL.M. Degree Course is of two years duration. Each year shall comprise of two Semesters. The LL.M. degree programme shall be spread over four semesters and shall comprise thirteen courses. The courses of study shall be as follows:

  • Foundation Courses – 4 courses – 400 Marks
  • Optional Courses – 6 courses – 600 Marks (From any one Optional group)
  • Practical Course – 1 course – 100 Marks
  • Dissertation – 2 courses – 200 Marks (Equivalent to 2 Courses)
  • Total 13 courses – 1300 Marks

  • 1.2 Indian Constitutional Law-The New challenges – 100 (Marks)
  • 1.3 Optional – I – 100 (Marks)
  • 1.4 Optional – II – 100 (Marks)

SEMESTER – II

  • 2.1 Judicial Process 100
  • 2.2 Legal Education and Research Methodology 100
  • 2.3 Optional – III- 100(Marks)
  • 2.4 Optional – IV- 100(Marks)
  • 2.5 Practical Course – 100(Marks)

SEMESTER – III

  • 3.1 Optional – V – 100(Marks)
  • 3.2 Optional – VI – 100(Marks)

SEMESTER – IV

  • 4.1 Dissertation – 200(Marks)
