Jawahar lal Bhattacharjee

Jawahar lal Bhattacharjee obtained his LL.B. & LL.M from Calcutta University. He was a part time lecturer in kalyani Mahavidyalaya and was practicing advocate in Calcutta. He is having experience in running academic institutions and connected with various management of schools. He is now looking after the extra-curricular activities of SKAIL students and helping the students to shape their career after the B.A.LL.B (Hons.) Programme.

Shri Amar Kanti obtained trainings on different subjects of law at Delhi and National Judicial Academy of Bhopal and State Judicial Academy of Salt Lake, W.B. Attended the National Conference of all India C.B.I. Judges held at National Judicial Academy, Bhopal and was the only representative of West Bengal as Selected by the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta. Took classes before the judicial officers of different grades at state Judicial academy Bijan Bhavan , Salt Lake, Kolkata on different subjects of Law mainly on Evidence Act and N.I.Act. Was the Judge of Permanent Lok-Adalat and was the chairman of Legal Services Committee of Bishnupur, Chandernagar and Malbazar of Jalpaiguri and workshops at the national level has given her wide exposure.

Sri Bandyopadhyay served as honorary law teacher in Calcutta University, North Bengal University, L.B.Shashtri National Academy of Administration, Mussourie and is a faculty member of several National And State Level Administrative Institutes. He was in Higher Judicial Service for 35 years and authored several prestigious law books on Tribal Customary and Constitutional Laws.


Prof.Manik Chakraborti, LLM, M.Phil., Ph.D.

He was the former Head of the Department of Law, Burdwan University and a good number of Ph.D scholars have passed under him. He is an eminent Professor of Law and a noted academician in the field of law in Eastern India.

He was the former Head of the Department of Calcutta University. A noted Professor in law and occupies various prestigious positions in the field of Law. He is also visiting professor of number of Universities in India.

He was the former Registrar of University of Kalyani; formerly Deputy Controller of examination, NBU and Development & Planning Officer, CU. He has participated in many seminars and workshops at the national level. Also an industrial consultant to the Government of Sikkim.

The hon’ble Mr. Justice Sailendra Prasad Talukdar, passed L.L.B From university of Calcutta and joined judicial service in 1974. Promoted to higher judicial service in the year 1992.Author of the book “the legal miscellany” (1978).Held enquiry commission being appointed by the government of West Bengal. Was member secretary, Calcutta legal services committee. Underwent training on “gender and law” in Warwick University, Coventry, U.KWas editor of two journals namely, “justice and the people” and “bicharerbani” (voice of justice). Worked in various capacities like district & sessions judge, Burdwan; Registrar, high court, Calcutta; legal remembrancer and finally, as principal secretary, judicial department, government of west Bengal, before being elevated as judge of the high court, calcutta.

Mr. D. K. Basu started his legal profession as an Advocate in the Calcutta High Court and also in the Supreme Court. He was elevated to the bench as Judge of Calcutta High. Presently Justice Basu (Retd.) is Chairman of Legal Aid Services West Bengal (LASWEB). He is also Chairman of the National Committee for Legal Aid Services - India. He is the founder of Association of Retired Justices of Supreme Court and High Courts of India. Justice Basu is the Founder President of Association of Retired Justices - West Bengal. In February, 2006 - he participated in the consultation on the Asian Charter on Rule of Law in Hongkongorganised by Asian Human Rights Commission. In April, 2006 - He acted as an International Observer in Trial Courts of Srilanka for the Asian Human Rights Commission based at The Candy High Court, Srilanka. Justice Basu is the Consultant in Training Program for the Lower Judiciary in India under sponsorship of Amnesty International India.

Mr.Ghosh joined West Bengal Judicial Service in 1997 and was elevated to West Bengal Higher Judicial Service. He was a District Sessions judge of Purba Midnapore, was a Joint Secretary (Law) Health & Family Welfare, Govt.of West Bengal, a District & Sessions judge, Jalpaiguri, a Judge XII Branch, City Civil Court, Calcutta, a Chief Judge, City Sessions Court, Calcutta, Judge, Compensation Court and now a Law Officer at the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation ltd.

Mrs. Chameli Majumdar, Member (Judicial), Central Administrative Tribunal, Bombay Bench, Mumbai.

Smt.Majumdar Passed M.A. with first class from University of Calcutta and L.L.B. in 1975 from the University College of Law, University of Calcutta. Enrolled as an Advocate in 1979. Stared practice in the Hon’ble High Court at calcutta .Practiced in C.A.T, Calcutta bench and West Bengal State Administrative Tribunal.Also appeared before the Hon’ble Supreme Court.An Executive Member of Indian Law Institute, West Bangal Chapter. Actively participated in Seminars and Conferences on women related issues. Delivered speeches in Seminars as well as Electronic Media on Gender Justice, Women’s Empowerment, legal remedies for sexual harassment in work place, Prevention of Immoral Trafficking, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, etc. Held the office of Senior Advocate for the State of West Bengal in the High Court atCalcutta for about five years.. Amidst her busy schedule, she has spared her invaluable time to teach at SKAIL.

Mr.Amales Ray has stood Law Graduate from the University of Calcutta. He joined the Bar, High Court, Calcutta in 1985. He has gathered the vast experience in the legal field by conducting several reportable and remarkable cases in the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta and in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. He has sharpened his legal acumen especially in Constitutional Matter. In academicals sphere he is expertise in Administrative Law, Interpretation Statute and the Indian Constitution. He is in editorial board for publication of legal journals. He has participated in various legal workshops and seminar and has shared his valuable legal thought.

Mr. Agarwal is an advocate practicing Civil and Criminal law in the courts of Darjeeling districts and also conducted cases in various Tribunals and High Courts. He was the District Public Prosecutor since 2004 in Darjeeling and is the Special Public Prosecutor for National Investigation Agency, Ex Legal Advisor of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council and Panel Lawyer for UCO Bank, Bank of Baroda, Vijaya Bank and Union bank of India. He is also the President of Governing Body, Southfield college, Darjeeling and Trustee of Himachal Hindi Bhawan, Darjeeling.

Soumyajit Raha, Advocate, Calcutta High Court

Mr.Raha completed his LLB from Calcutta University and is a Member of the Bar Association, High Court, Calcutta and a Member of District Bar Association, Barasat , Barrackpore and Bidhannagar ,Salt Lake. His area of specialization are Information Technology laws and cyber and telecommunication crime , Intellectual Property matters, Civil and quasi-civil matters pertaining to various individual matters, land and property disputes, disputes relating to the right, title and interest in a property, money suits, specific performance of contracts, landlord-tenant disputes, promoting, development etc . He is also attached with West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences as Guest Faculty.
